Our neighbours’ son recently celebrated his 3rd birthday and we were lucky enough to score an invite to his lovely Thomas the Tank Engine themed party, held at the Durban Society of Model Engineers railway spot in Virginia Circle, Durbs.
Now I don’t know about you, but since becoming a mum and finding myself seriously starved of all normal adult social interaction, I simply cannot resist a good kiddie’s party invitation. Hit me with an invite and I can guarantee you that Jozi (ahem) Ryder will be there like a bear.
Granted, we almost didn’t make it. First there was a violent altercation at home involving our son not wanting to give the birthday boy his present (even though he has the exact same toy and I intentionally did it that way to save ourselves the drama) and then of course the toddler will always choose the worst possible time to fall asleep. As in, when it’s time to leave for the darn party!
Thankfully we did get there in the end and it turned out to be a fantastic day. Liesl and Shaun put on a fabulous party and all the kiddies had a blast riding the little trains and sugar rushing on the playground. I loved the lovely décor and the setting.
Then, somehow, when the kiddies’ party ended we found ourselves back at home talking to Liesl and Shaun across the driveway we share. And then one thing led to another and before we knew it my husband and I had totally gate-crashed their family braai that night (#sorrynotsorry, guys). Many hours and bottles of wine later, we finally staggered home across the driveway with our exhausted kid passed out under a blankie.
Thanks Liesl and Shaun for a really great day for kids and adults alike!
